ZX-118 Multi-Function Quad Serial I/O Board
The ZX-118 is a multi-function board which is designed for implementation of multi-user operating systems such as MP/ M. The ZX-118 includes four seriaIRS232C ports utilizing 8251A USARTs, an on-board DMA controller, 16K of high speed static RAM, and a memory management unit. The ports are accessed by a DMA controller and feature software selectable baud rates from 300 to 19,200. The ports are connected to four 26 pin edge connectors at the top of the board. Each serial channel may have direct memory access via the on-board DMA controller. Data packets may be handled over the serial channels without constant CPU intervention. The on-board RAM is utilized as a high speed execution area for the operating system. The memory management unit overlays the on-board RAM segment onto contiguous 48K segments in main memory providing 64K user segments.
